Angela Ryan
Angela Ryan leads the Office of the Chief Clinical Information Officer (OCCIO) and works collaboratively across the health system and promotes adoption and meaningful clinical use of digital health services and technologies to benefit all Australians. One of Angela’s key priorities is ensuring strong clinical engagement with Australia’s National Digital Health Strategy and associated programs and services including the My Health Record system.
With more than 30 years’ experience in hospitals and the public-sector Angela provides clinical leadership in the implementation, advancement and optimisation of digital/ICT systems to support improved health and care outcomes. Ms Ryan also supports initiatives such as the Chief X Information Officer (CXIO) Network to help the Australian health workforce adapt, use, and embrace changes and opportunities created by digital health innovation and embedding them in their work flows.
A leading patient safety advocate, Angela recently completed a Churchill Fellowship to investigate methods to reduce patient harm through digital health safety governance. Angela interviewed digital health and patient safety clinicians, researchers, policy makers and industry leaders in England, Canada and the United States to understand lessons learned from the design, development, deployment and surveillance of digital tools and technologies.
Angela is also the President of the Australasian College of Health Informatics (ACHI), Credentialed fellows and members of the college are thought leaders, experts and trusted advisers in digital health and health informatics. ACHI sets standards for professional practice and education in Health Informatics, provides evidence-based guidance to jurisdictions, supports initiatives, facilitates inter-disciplinary collaboration and mentors the community.
Before joining the Agency, Angela led key streams of state-wide NSW programs, playing key roles in establishing design assurance and support functions and winning buy-in across the sector for her work. Angela is also a Registered Nurse, with a Critical Care Certificate, and a Graduate Diploma in eHealth (Health Informatics).
